Basswood

Our Basswood comes from Northern Wisconsin and is also known as lime or linden. The sapwood of basswood is creamy light in color with the heart wood having light brown coloring.  Because basswood is light and soft, it works well with hand carving tools.  You may use basswood for power carving, but it does seem to have more light, fine dust than Tupelo.  Basswood has the ability to create more fine definition without breakage or fuzz than Tupelo.  Most basswood can be found cut from 1/32" up to 4" thick.  Use basswood for carving, wood burning, excellent chip carving material.
