Tupelo

Tupelo is a great wood for power carving.  It is super light!  The color is light and the grain is pretty uniform.  It is soft and easy to carve.  The unique advantage about tupelo is that it does not "fuzz".  While we all look for tupelo carving blanks, and commonly refer to the wood as just Tupelo.

Tupelo is actually from the Tupelo gum tree and can be found in the swamps of the southern and eastern United States.  It can be cut with a knife, but it get's a little tricky when using gouges and other hand tools.  It is great for wood burning or pyrography.

Our wood carving blocks are cut from the bell of the tree and then dried to create some of the finest and lightest wood available.
